Women from the fishing community protect marine prairies

Ocean Alive’s “Guardiãs do Mar” (Guardians of the Sea) are women from Setúbal estuary’s fishing community who collaborate with the Portuguese organization to protect marine prairies. Currently, there are 14 of them. They play a relevant part in trying to change their peers’ behavior as far as the protection of this habitat is concerned, especially regarding shellfishing.

Ocean Alive’s goal is to change behaviors developing a good practice certificate that will allow for further profit in this community’s trade of fish and shellfish.
